Provenance
Source-of-wealth research
For private banking prospect teams
Provenance researches a prospect’s wealth from the public record and writes it up as a file you can put in front of a committee: a cited narrative, a reconciliation against the relationship size you expect, and a plain register of what could not be established.
Founder of Meridian Container Leasing; sold to Nordholm Group 2019
Reconciliation
Strongly consistent — with the 25–100m band
His wealth derives principally from the 2019 sale of his Meridian stake to Nordholm Group for S$412 million per the SGX filing, which records a 38% stake against the 41% reported by the FT.
Two sources disagree on the disposed stake size. Both are shown; neither is adjudicated.
Every mark in the margin is one sentence’s evidence · green registry, regulator, court or exchange · ochre secondary press or a single source
How a file gets made
01
Name the prospect
A name, whatever context you have, and the relationship size you expect. Four fields.
02
Confirm who they are
Candidates come back with distinguishing facts. You pick the person. Nothing is charged until you do.
03
Watch it assemble
Registries, exchanges, courts and the financial press. Findings appear as they are confirmed, with their tier.
04
Review, then export
Read every claim with its source and its identity basis. Export the file and freeze an immutable decision record.
What it refuses to do
A research tool that guesses is worse than no research tool, because the guess ends up in a file with the bank’s name on it. Provenance states what the record supports and stops there.
Estimates a net worth. No figure is inferred, modelled or totalled. The file reconciles evidenced magnitudes against the band you stated.
Writes a sentence without a source. Every line carries its tier, jurisdiction, date and the signal that matched it to this person. Conflicting sources are both shown, unadjudicated.
Treats silence as suspicion. Absence of public evidence is reported as a gap, with what would close it — not as a red flag.
Decides anything. It is prospect research that supplements KYC. The banker verifies, excludes and signs.
Touches special-category data. Public web sources only. No health, political, religious or sexual-orientation inference. No minors.
The evidence standard
T1
Company registries, exchange filings
T2
Regulators, courts, land and property records
T3
Financial press with named sourcing
T4
Secondary press, self-description — marked wherever it appears
Rich lists, aggregators and net-worth sites are never a claim and never appear in a file. Where they turn up they are recorded as leads in the audit manifest, and nowhere else.
Data & hosting
Prospects only, never existing clients — client data stays inside the bank until a Swiss-hosted research path exists. Every run records its models, prompt version and sources. Profiles are deleted on request with their exports. Default retention 24 months.
Access
Provenance is issued per seat to prospect and coverage teams, with a named administrator at each booking centre. Request access and we will arrange a working session against three of your own live prospects.
